A $130 Executive membership offers a 2% annual reward worth up to $1,250 — shoppers need about $3,250 in qualifying spending to offset the $65 upgrade from the standard plan. One prominent advantage is the gas savings that come from filling up at Costco stations. Typically, Costco gas prices are lower than competing stations, helping to offset the annual membership fee. Costco gas can help members recoup annual fees through lower pump prices, while the retailer's app shows station hours and local prices before drivers head out. That kind of planning tool makes it easy to build a fuel stop into any errand run.

For members who pair gas purchases with the Costco credit card, the rewards stack even higher — cardholders earn up to 5% cash back on gas purchases at Costco and up to 4% back on other eligible gas purchases, plus 3% cash back on restaurants and eligible travel, and 2% at Costco itself. Stack the card rewards on top of Costco's already-low gas prices and you're "basically getting paid to fill your tank."

She added that these offers make stocking up on gift cards for holidays or birthdays easy, and that gift cards for movie theaters, theme parks, performances, and activities are also available.

When members purchase tires through Costco, they receive complimentary services like tire rotation, balancing, pressure checks, and flat tire repairs for the life of the tires. Those services, typically charged separately at other retailers, can add up to hundreds of dollars over the years — making the tire center one of the most quietly valuable corners of the warehouse.
