Deadly Encounter in Broad Daylight

What started as a routine afternoon shopping trip turned into a nightmare for Kyra Stubbs when she was approached by a stranger outside a Dallas Walmart on Forest Lane and shot seven times by a man she had never seen before . Emergency crews were dispatched just after 3:20 p.m. on November 19, and witnesses described people ducking behind cars as shots rang out .

Dallas Police later identified the gunman as Christion Bingham, who had tracked his romantic partner to the Walmart, shooting innocent bystander Stubbs and grazing another woman before taking his own life in his car . Stubbs recalled the terrifying moment: "Never seen him before and I was like, 'Why? Why are you doing this?' Because he was so angry. He had this look of vengeance in his face and his eyes, like, it was evil" .

When Stubbs instinctively tried to grab the gun, the shooter fired another round each time, which is how she sustained four gunshot wounds to her right arm alone . She was shot seven times total, including four rounds to her right arm .

After being shot multiple times, Stubbs collapsed between two cars and began to pray, saying "God, I trust you," and right in that moment when she said "I trust you," the gunman shot that last shot in her right buttock and then walked away . A sense of calm came over her, and she asked a bystander to apply a tourniquet to her arm before paramedics arrived .

"I know that God kept me here for a reason. I don't know what it is just yet, but absolutely, and I do have a testimony," said Stubbs . Her daughter Kylie Scott describes their relationship as unusually close, saying "We're closer than normal mother-daughter" , which has been crucial during the recovery process.

Road to Recovery

Doctors expect Stubbs to make a full recovery, though Scott acknowledges the complex emotions: "I feel like there's so many emotions that you could feel from the situation. But I'm so grateful it outweighs every other emotion" . However, the path forward remains challenging.

Stubbs' attorney Cole McNiel pointed to Walmart for what he called a lack of sufficient security, noting "It's a high-crime area, so they have to put up safeguards to make sure that things like this don't happen, that there aren't individuals with guns in their parking lot" .
