The Lawsuit Behind the Payout

Apple agreed to pay $250 million to settle claims that it misled customers about Siri's Apple Intelligence features. Customers who were part of the class action lawsuit said they purchased iPhones expecting certain Siri features they allegedly did not receive. It's a stunning sum — and one that legal experts are already calling historic.

According to Ryan Clarkson, co-lead counsel on the class-action lawsuit and founder and managing partner of Clarkson Law Firm, "The $250 million settlement fund represents the largest false advertising settlement in history." Apple was hit with the class action on the basis that people purchasing iPhones between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025, did so believing it would ship Apple Intelligence sooner than it did. While not making an admission of guilt, the company agreed to the $250 million settlement to make up for those delays, which saw features pushed back until fall 2025 and later.

Do You Qualify?

To be eligible to receive compensation, a customer must be a resident of the U.S. and have purchased an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. That's a fairly specific window, so it's worth checking your purchase records if you're unsure of the exact date you bought your phone.

Claimants must be able to prove they purchased the iPhone during that period, that it was purchased for personal or business use, and that they are the original device purchaser. Eligible customers must also acknowledge that they "expected at the time of purchase to receive certain Siri Apple Intelligence features on your device, which you did not." In total, up to 36 million iPhone owners are potentially eligible for a payout of up to $95 per device.

How Much Money Could You Get?

Customers who submit a valid claim form will initially receive $25 per eligible device. However, that amount may be increased up to $95 or decreased depending on the "total number of valid claims submitted and other factors," according to the claims website. The fewer people who file, the more each claimant stands to receive — so acting sooner rather than later is in your interest.

To receive a payment, eligible customers must complete and submit a valid claim form by December 21, 2026. They may submit a claim for each eligible device. That means if you purchased more than one qualifying iPhone during the eligible window, you could be looking at multiple payouts.

How to File Your Claim Right Now

If you are in the U.S. and eligible to claim, visit the official claims website at SmartphoneAISettlement.com. Over the coming days, eligible customers will be notified about the settlement via email. The email should contain a claim ID and a PIN code allowing you to fill out a form that will ask for personal information as well as the serial number of the eligible iPhone.

If you don't have the serial number of the iPhone, you will need to supply your Apple Account email as well as the device's phone number. Alternatively, the settlement website is now live for you to proactively file a claim without that information. If filing a personal claim, you'll be asked to provide your personal details, iPhone serial number, and payment method — options include PayPal, Venmo, ACH, or check.

A district court in San Jose, California, will hold a hearing on February 24, 2027, to decide whether to approve the settlement. If there are any appeals, it could delay the payment process. "If there is no appeal, your settlement benefit will be processed promptly," according to the claim website. Given how straightforward the filing process is, there's little reason to wait — the deadline is December 21, 2026, and millions of dollars are sitting on the table for those willing to spend five minutes to claim what they're owed.
