Explosive Device Discovery Shuts Down Major Nashville Road

A Nashville man faces serious charges after police discovered an improvised explosive device in a gas station dumpster Friday night, prompting the closure of a major section of Nolensville Pike between Interstate 440 and Vivelle Avenue. Brandon Lamar Holt, 37, was arrested Saturday night and charged with possessing a prohibited improvised explosive device, which authorities say he created using gasoline recovered from a Mapco station dumpster.

The incident forced authorities to shut down both Nolensville Pike and Glenrose Avenue for several hours Friday night, with the roadway not reopening until approximately 11:19 p.m. after the Metro Nashville Police Department's hazardous devices unit secured the materials. The immediate area around the gas station was also evacuated as a precaution while police cleared the scene.

Suspicious Behavior Leads to Police Investigation

The investigation began when witnesses reported seeing a man loitering near the convenience store, asking customers for odd items and collecting materials next to the dumpster before fleeing on foot, prompting bystanders to examine what he had done and call police. According to police reports, Holt approached a fuel truck driver delivering gasoline to the store, asking what type of gasoline "burns quicker" before purchasing $1 worth of gas to fill a compartment of his device, and also requested tape from both the driver and store clerk for his explosive device.

Multiple high-density security cameras captured Holt with the device near the dumpster, providing crucial evidence for investigators. Police released photos of Holt early Saturday morning asking for public assistance in identifying him, leading to his arrest later that same night.

Serious Charges and Security Implications

Holt was booked into Metro jail on a $150,000 bond after being charged with possessing a prohibited improvised explosive device. He was processed into the Davidson County Jail early Sunday morning but is not eligible for release despite the bond amount. When the hazardous devices unit examined the materials, which included liquids and household items, they determined the items were indeed hazardous and that Holt was attempting to create an explosive device.
