Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991 at just 29 years old, Fox founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has become one of the largest private funders of Parkinson's research in the world.
His recognition by the Lasker Foundation affirms something the scientific community has increasingly come to understand: public advocacy is not a soft complement to hard science — it is a force multiplier.
