The methodology ensures smaller communities like Fair Oaks Ranch compete on equal footing with larger cities. The study also named Fair Oaks Ranch as the safest city in the Greater San Antonio area.

What makes this recognition particularly striking is Fair Oaks Ranch's emergence from relative obscurity. A residential community was established by Fair's family in the 1970s and the community was incorporated in 1988. The town was named for Ralph E. Fair, Sr, a successful oilman and rancher who used to operate a ranch that became the town.

Elite Company Among Texas Cities

Fair Oaks Ranch finds itself in prestigious company on the SafeWise list. Residents consistently praise the community's family-friendly atmosphere. "We were trying to find an area that was focused on residential. Trying to keep commercial out of it, more of a bedroom community catering to San Antonio with access to everything we need," Burtis explained. "It's a nice, quiet bedroom community and I can't imagine living anywhere else right now."

The town's police chief emphasizes community engagement as a key factor. "If you picture it as a basketball team, the 6th man on that team, our citizens are a big help to us," said Ojeda. Quick response times also matter: "We're in such a small, 13-mile radius city. We can pretty much get from our location to an actual call in less than six minutes," he added.
