Handcuffed in Miami

US Marshals arrested social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday on an extradition request from the United Kingdom, following an investigation into sexual offenses reported by seven victims, according to the UK Crown Prosecution Service. The arrests occurred shortly before Andrew Tate was scheduled to co-host a bare-knuckle boxing event in Miami. The timing was striking — one moment, a high-profile event; the next, federal agents and handcuffs.

The Department of Justice confirmed US Marshals arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate "pursuant to extradition proceedings," adding the arrests "were made in accordance with the treaties and law enforcement agreements governing Justice Department extraditions." The brothers were taken into custody on a sealed warrant. The brothers are expected to appear in Miami's federal court early next week, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The Charges: A Sweeping Case

Bedfordshire Police said the new charges bring the total against the brothers to 59, with Andrew Tate facing 42 charges and Tristan Tate facing 17. The UK's Crown Prosecution Service announced it will prosecute Andrew Tate, 39, on seven counts of rape, three for sex trafficking, three for assault, and 19 additional charges for offenses relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Prosecutors said Tristan Tate also faces additional rape, sexual assault and trafficking charges.

The CPS said the alleged crimes span from 2010 to 2017 and involve four additional alleged victims, bringing the total number of alleged victims in the UK case to seven. The new charges were brought after officials investigated reports made by four additional victims in the East England areas of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The brothers were previously charged in the UK in May 2025 with a total of 21 counts — including multiple counts of rape, bodily harm and human trafficking — a case that involved three women.

A Legal Saga Spanning Three Countries

The arrests mark the latest development in a series of court cases spanning multiple countries. In Romania, where Andrew and Tristan Tate made their home for several years, they were charged in both 2023 and 2024 with human trafficking, sexual abuse, money laundering and forming an organized criminal group. The brothers left Romania after Romanian authorities lifted travel restrictions on them, arriving in Florida in February 2025, where upon their arrival they found themselves at the heart of another criminal investigation — when Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced a probe led by the Office of Statewide Prosecution.

Joseph D. McBride, a New York City attorney representing the pair, called the arrests an "egregious abuse" of authority, and said UK authorities "conjured up a wave of charges against the Tate brothers," predicting the pair would "walk free." McBride also raised a jurisdictional argument, contending there is "a long-standing agreement between the UK and Romanian governments that the UK would not seek extradition while the Romanian proceedings are pending," adding that "those proceedings are ongoing right now." The pair has not been convicted of any of the crimes alleged by UK or Romanian authorities and have steadfastly denied committing the crimes alleged.

Who Are the Tate Brothers?

The brothers, who hold dual US and British citizenship, rose to fame as "manosphere" influencers, building millions of followers with content promoting hypermasculinity and male non-monogamy. Andrew Tate has amassed over 10 million followers on X but has been banned from platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram for violating hate speech guidelines. Andrew Tate is also facing a civil suit in the UK, brought by four women who accuse the social media influencer of rape.

With extradition proceedings now formally underway in a Miami federal court, the legal walls appear to be closing in from multiple directions. Both men are expected to appear in federal court in Florida early this week, and the proceedings will determine whether they remain detained and begin the process of reviewing Britain's extradition request. Given the scale of the charges, the number of alleged victims, and the coordination between international law enforcement agencies, this case is far from a simple extradition dispute — it is shaping up to be one of the most complex and consequential legal proceedings involving social media figures in recent history.
