Andrew and Tristan Tate Arrested in Miami on UK Rape and Trafficking Charges

A High-Profile Arrest Years in the Making

US Marshals arrested social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday on an extradition request from the United Kingdom, following an investigation into sexual offenses reported by seven victims, according to the UK Crown Prosecution Service. The arrest of two of the internet's most controversial figures — men who have built massive global followings while openly promoting male dominance — sent shockwaves across social media and legal circles alike.

The brothers were taken into custody on a sealed warrant, the United States Marshals Service said, placing the US at the center of an international legal saga that has stretched from Romania to the UK. Andrew Tate was previously a champion kickboxer and reality television star before becoming an influencer in the "manosphere," going into business with his brother Tristan.

The Charges They Face

Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist with billions of views online, faces 42 charges, including rape, human trafficking, indecent images of a child, and assault, according to the UK Crown Prosecution Service and Bedfordshire Police. Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, including sexual assault, rape, and trafficking. The arrests came after UK prosecutors brought 38 new charges related to rape and sex trafficking, bringing the total to 59.

UK officials accused the brothers of abusing women in the East of England region, just north of London, between 2010 and 2017. The new charges were brought after officials investigated reports made by four additional victims in the East England areas of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The Tate brothers are also accused of tax evasion and money laundering in the UK.

A Legal Battle Spanning Multiple Countries

Andrew and Tristan moved to Romania, and in 2023, Romanian prosecutors filed a criminal indictment against them, accusing the brothers of crimes including violence, rape, and human trafficking, as well as forcing women to take part in pornography. In December 2024, a Bucharest court ruled that the first case against the Tates and their two female associates couldn't proceed to trial because of multiple legal and procedural irregularities and sent it back to prosecutors — but the charges were not dropped.

The brothers left Romania after Romanian authorities lifted travel restrictions on them, arriving in Florida in February 2025. Upon their arrival, they found themselves at the heart of another criminal investigation, when the Florida Attorney General announced a probe led by the Office of Statewide Prosecution. Andrew Tate is also facing a civil suit in the UK, brought by four women who accuse the social media influencer of rape.

In a statement released on social media after their arrest, attorney Joseph McBride claimed the brothers were innocent, describing the arrests as a "political hit," and said: "We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free." A spokesperson for Tate previously told CNN that their client "categorically denies these unproven and untested allegations."

The UK Crown Prosecution Service says it is seeking the Tates' extradition, stating that the latest charges stem from new evidence from Bedfordshire Police that brings the total number of alleged victims to seven. The extradition process could take months or even years to resolve, and the brothers still face unresolved proceedings in Romania. Advocates have long warned against the pair's rising influence among young boys and men — Andrew Tate is known for his aggressive speech about male dominance, female submission, and wealth. How this case unfolds in US courts may ultimately determine whether that influence faces its most serious legal reckoning yet.
